Chris Christenbury, the founder and Center Executive Director, has many years of experience working with at risk and in crisis youth. A former Marine and police officer, he was the senior vice president at a boarding school for at risk young men in Virginia prior to developing Cove Creek Farm as a refuge for young men. Chris has a Bachelor's in Justice and Risk Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and is half way through a Masters in Counseling. Chris is a Rabbi and loves to teach young men about the benefits living righteous, clean and sober lifestyles. Malcolm Christenbury is the Facilities Manager and runs the day to day operations side of Cove Creek Center. A graduate of Halifax High School and the Massage Therapy program of CCC&TI, Malcolm demonstrates the professionalism and dedication born of having Chris as a father and from attending a difficult and demanding Leadership Academy in Virginia. Malcolm works on a daily basis with the guys in the program, teaching them work ethic, individual responsibility and the processes involved in planning, executing and finishing a job.Learning to work with/for Malcolm is a demanding exercise in growing up and accepting responsibility for one's actions and work ethic.

Savannah Parris is our Educational Facilitator. Her job is to help our high school students to finish their courses and to graduate with an accredited high school diploma or G.E.D. Savannah helped shape Cove Creek Academy into the organization it is today.  Savannah is a Teaching Fellow at Appalachian State University. She is majoring in Spanish Education with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language. Savannah's passion for education is her drive. She hopes to teach Spanish in the mountains of North Carolina after graduating.

 

Katy June Abrams transplanted herself to the Blue Ridge Mountains from Chicago, IL, about 8 years ago when she realized she was a small town girl at heart. She finished her BA in English with a Creative Writing Concentration and a minor in Women's Studies at Appalachian State University in 2007. Katy June has spent much of her life working with young people, either at summer camps, through church youth programs, or various volunteer organizations. She enjoys the work tutoring the Cove Creek students, and is proud of the progress they make both in and out the classroom. She is married and currently expecting her first child.

Katurah Leonard (MMT, MT-BC) is Cove Creek Center’s music therapist. She earned her BA in music performance from Milligan College in 2005. In 2010, Katurah received her graduate degree in music therapy from Appalachian State University and is music therapist board certified.
