COVE CREEK SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP is the natural "next stage" for young men graduating from the Cove Creek Farm Residential Program. The School of Leadership may move the young men from living in a "program" environment to living a much more independent but still structured life. In one of the several properties in the immediate area of Cove Creek Center, the young men live as roommates who all share the same goal of sobriety and healing.
The Cove Creek Community is a very open and accepting community with many opportunities for volunteer service. Our guys are always involved with what goes on here. We help with the Cove Creek Music Festival, the Mountaineer Ruritan monthly fish fry, the Cove Creek Farm Heritage Days, The Cove Creek Developmental Day School and any activity that the Cove Creek Preservation & Development Society undertakes. Our young men volunteer to assist in the Blood, Sweat and Gears Red Cross bike ride and much, much more. One important aspect of being a School of Leadership "Fellow" is our commitment to education. We strongly encourage our Fellows to continue with community college classes with a goal of transferring to a four year institution when appropriate. Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute has been a valuable resource for that educational experience. The school is very responsive to the special needs of students who have learning difficulties and offers a truly wide range of classes. Appalachian State University is only 10 miles form Cove Creek Center and Lees McRae College is a 25 minute drive from the farm.
